What an Experience!

Too many deadlines. So much work. Time pressured. An expectation to meet. These were the things that made me realized what real world means.

Accreditation week was a long tiring week for us. It was an unforgettable yet enjoyable week. An experienced that we have to treasure because of so many things mean to happened for us to learn.

Being one as a group is what I learned that time. Cooperation is essential to do job well done. Time management and accurate gathering of facts is necessary. Understanding each others opinion is important. Trusting each other is the key. And being calm and professional in times of trouble are vital.

Maybe we are not perfect but we can make things better. Taking so many factors into consideration is a solution to make things possible. In our Daluyong experience we are happened to be victim of different instances that was really meant to happen just for us to be matured enough to understand that we are soon to be professional someday. We have to be valiant and watchful in our steps towards brighter future. And accreditation week experiences were enough to prove that we are in the skylight of are path to reach our main goal, to become a better and responsible journalist someday.

A Daughter's Tribute

A father of four, a husband of 55 year old pure CaviteƱa, and a certified voideoke king of his time. A true friend and a man with dignity. A very diligent person and humorous one. No one expected of what he is in now.

Wearing his favorite blue checkered polo and faded maong pants, carrying a huge bag, he leaves his family in Cavite to work in Cebu as an electrician. He is the one who is willing to sacrifice just for his family.

“I am satisfied to see you happy, to give you a better life is my felicity”—Jess said to his family before he leave on January 7, 2008, a week before the 18th birthday of his eldest daughter.

August 16, 2008, seven months after Jess go back to Cebu, in just a snap, ambiance vary quickly. A happy family gathering during fiesta turns to a very emotional night as they heard the bad news. A nightmare that they didn’t think even in their dreams. The head of the family is now suffering in a severe lung cancer, too many complications. His boss informed his family that he is confined in one of the hospitals in Cebu with a very critical situation, he is 50:50.

August 17, already six in the morning when his wife reached the hospital. She travels from Cavite to Cebu overnight. He hasn’t able to bring their children there because of financial problem. She saw her sick husband lying on the bed, with a hose on his mouth, three dextrose and other apparatus attached to his body.

“Why are you here? Where did you get your money? How’s Sarah (their youngest child)?”—continuous questions that he asked to his wife in a stammering manner.

His wife simply grabs his hands and suddenly precious water from her eyes run down.

“Why don’t you tell us? You are suffering too much. You carry all the burdens alone for a long period of time.”—his wife said.

All along, they both tried to be tough for their children. Behind his serious situation, Jess still finds time to think of his family. The sake and future of his family is what is in his mind. The expenses for the job application of his one and only son, the expenses for the schooling of his college student daughter, the necessities of his 17th year old daughter and the love and care that his child deserve.

August 18, the cool videoke king daddy, the sweet and thoughtful partner, and the cheerful friend make his last breathe. The four corners of the room were covered by sadness and sorrows. Now his wife is widowed, their children are happened to be orphan, and all of his friends lost this very generous man.

This coming August 2009, we will commemorate the first death anniversary of my father. Maybe my dad wasn’t be able to attend my debut last year, and he can’t witness my graduation hopefully next year, but I am really proud of him because he is one of the best and will always be the best in our hearts.

THANK YOU AMA!
